Oscar worthy indeed!

I just finished watching Les Triplettes de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville) and man, it is amazing. It's a very surreal animated movie with no dialogue. Yes, there are words spoken and most of it is in French, but it's all background noise. None of the main characters speak except maybe in song.

The level of detail in this movie is phenomenal. I'm used to seeing this much extraneous detail in your average anime or a 2D adventure game, but not in North American or European animation.

There are a lot of different techniques, though the majority is hand-painted cel animation. I'd recommend everyone try to catch this at some point.

Did I mention that the main characters are 4 old women, a fat dog and a Tour de France cyclist, all very deformed?

The French Mafia are the major villains

Yeah. You've gotta see it :)
