I Apologize In Advance

I love XKCD. It's probably the nerdiest of all the comics I read. It's also the kind of comic I'd probably make if I did a webcomic, if only because I can't draw.

Today's comic was a classic. I apologize for any groaning it may induce.

My Poor 360

Heh. I couldn't play yesterday because I was in Corunna. I check the 360 blog today and it says this.

"Guboo's Xbox - 6/24/2007

3 Processors, 512MB of RAM, custom graphics chip and multichannel surround sound all gone to waste yesterday as Guboo decided not to show up. And so ends the 50 day streak. So sad..."

Poor fella.

It's Garrett's 3rd Birthday!

I'm just amazed he survived last week :)

He had a pretty nice party yesterday at the Grace residence in Corunna and then today he had a little picnic after church and then had a long drive home. At least he gets to sleep in his own bed tonight.

Pictures will follow... I hope.

OOO... Pretty Colours

Oh wow. I'm sure this has been around a while, but check out this ad for the Bravia TV. Awesome stuff, esp. given that it's all live action (no CGI) and done in one take.

Chairman (not) of the Board

Well, I just joined the condo board at the townhouse complex I live in. I'm not sure if I should be afraid or not, but I'd rather be on the board and able to help and make decisions than just sitting around whining about stuff and hoping things get done.

Plus, I think my joining the board ended up prompting 3 or 4 other people join the board, as nobody was putting their hand up prior to my joining.

Now to await the arrival of my bulletproof vest, pants with extra padding in the rump (for the kicks in the arse I'm likely to face) and t-shirt with a bullseye painted on it.

Sigh.

I can't think of a good caption... It's your turn!

Don't Let This Kid Near ANYTHING!

Behold: The Deadpool Car!

Forza 2 is a pretty decent racing game on the 360 but where I'm having the most fun is in the paint shop.

From Forza 2

Not The Way I Wanted To Get A Laptop

So we ended up buying Julie's cousin a new laptop to replace the one Garrett destroyed the other day. I am hoping that we can get the thing fixed if I send it away to HP to get repaired.

At least our insurance covered $500 of the cost. Sigh.

Lots of sighing going on today, it seems.

Oh, and reports out of Corunna seem to indicate that Garrett somehow got his hands on a Sharpie and not only doodled on his face ("I'm a tiger! ROAR!") but also on the in-law's carpet and chair.

See, I'm not around. He doesn't have the fear of Daddy to keep him in line :)

Storm's A-Comin'

This is annoying.

I get a week with no kids or wife around... a week of complete and utter nerditude.

And what happens? My thumb starts going numb and my shoulder is flaring up. ARG.

I got a few twinges in my thumb on Saturday while I was at work and it's gotten more and more annoying as the days have gone on. My shoulder is also rather painful, esp. today. Granted, I probably shouldn't have helped lift a shuffleboard table at work today what with it flaring up but I did...

Sigh.

I'm going to put the magic bag on my shoulder and some ice on my thumb and see if it feels better in the morning. If it's still like this, I'll go to the doctor tomorrow.

It really feels like the way my shoulder flares up before a storm comes but we had the big storm blow through yesterday and it's felt worse today than it did earlier in the week. Blah.

Stupid Chili

I just wanted to mention that last night, as I was playing Forza 2 on the 360, I was rubbing my eyes and then screaming in pain for 5 minutes because I had forgotten that I had that oil on my fingers/hands/nose...

Then I'd do it again... about 5 times.

Sigh.

I've been out of the house for 14 hours or so and the chili has been simmering since 7am and it had better be good for the amount of pain it has caused me :)

Update: Oh baby, that's good chili. It's got a great slow burn to it, but it's not overpowering. And the flavour is awesome.

I just wish I'd had about one more steak or two worth of meat in it...

Spidey vs. FF

I just got back from a Spidey 3/FF double bill. I hate to say it, but I think I actually enjoyed FF more.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was just pure superhero awesomeness even with Jessica Alba as Sue Storm and the crappy Doctor Doom.

Since the plot didn't revolve around the FF going, "Wow! I have powers!" every 5 minutes like the first movie did, stuff actually happened this time around. That was the biggest problem that I had with the first FF movie. It was fun, but nothing happened. Oh, stuff happened this time around. Lots of stuff.

The implementation of the Silver Surfer was also awesome and while I wish they'd had the good ol' Purple Shorts version of Galactus, I liked the more Ultimate universe version of him in the movie.

Spiderman 3, on the other hand, was a good movie... just not a good Spiderman movie. Honestly, they could just cut out the actual superhero bits and have a perfectly servicable teen drama. That said, it was good. Just a bit too much romance and not enough development of the villains and their relationship with Spidey.

Just Follow The Path Of Destruction

So, it appears that Hurricane Garrett has touched down in Sarnia already.

He's been there less than 24 hours and he's already destroyed at least one laptop, possibly a house.

Sigh.

If he survives to his 3rd birthday, Julie must have the patience of a saint.

IT BURNS!

Well, I've been making some Texas Red Chili today for dinner tomorrow. I was just chopping up some jalepeno and habenero peppers and thought, "Hmm. I wonder if I got the right peppers. They don't smell very spicy. They smell almost sweet."

Then I had to rub my nose because it was itchy.

BAD MOVE.

I have capsasin oil in my nose and it burns... oh lordy, how it burns. I'd pour milk up my nose, but then I'd drown.

Ow ow ow...

A Couple Of Naughty Kids

I have a pile of pictures of animals from our trip today, but not a lot with Garrett in them.

However, this one was great.

Go Wild!

We're taking Garrett (and Kara) out to the African Lion Safari today (tomorrow? Friday...) as an early birthday present. If we go this week, we get in cheaper than usual and he gets in for free.

Plus it gives us something to do tomorrow and we shouldn't have the madness that greeted us the last time we went there (note to self: Don't go anywhere on the August long weekend...)

Should be a blast. I'll take lots of pictures and post them tomorrow.

Real Time Lost Crash

This is awesome. Someone has edited together most of the clips from Lost (up to the beginning of Season 3) and made a real-time playback of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815.

Very snazzy.

Steampunk Overload

Wow. I want this computer.

And if I get this motorcycle, I can drive back and forth to work in order to pay for that computer.

Finding Spidey

So I am planning on seeing Spiderman 3 when Julie heads down to Sarnia for the week. Unfortunately, it seems that Spidey 3 isn't the super popular movie it had hoped to be. I'm having a hard time finding a theatre that is still showing it after Friday. Grr...

I'm kind of tempted to see the new Fantastic Four movie too, but I'm on the fence. On the one hand, it has the Silver Surfer and Galactus (although he's not wearing purple pants this time, but still...) which look awesome and are awesome. On the flip side, it has Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. She and the guy who played Doctor Doom were the two really bad parts of the first Fantastic Four movie. Well, them and the incredibly boring script. As this movie looks to actually have the team do something more than stand around going, "Wow! We have super powers!", it could actually be a pretty fun movie. Not high art or anything, but given that the first FF movie was nowhere near as bad as I feared it to be, I could actually see myself enjoying the new one.

I guess it'll depend on how my free time plays out this week.

On another note, I watched Jackass 2 last night. It's a great movie for watching at Stupid O'Clock (you know, that time of night when everything seems funny for no particular reason). It's also the first movie that almost made me throw up. That takes some doing...

What are you doing on July 7th?

Oh baby. I'm so excited.

I was complaining about the dearth of chili cook-offs in the area yesterday at work. I just love chili and chili cook-offs are one of the coolest things ever. I had even contemplated starting an annual chili cook-off here in Acton back when I was on leave to look after Garrett, but then reality set in and I didn't.

So I was poking around on the net today and lo and behold, there's a big chili fest up in Thornbury on July 7th!

And I just happen to be off that Saturday!

Wooo!

So, who's interested in joining me for a day filled with delicious, mouth-watering chili and open windows in the car for the drive home?

When Good Ideas Go Bad

So I had to find something for Garrett & I to do this afternoon. We'd already spent the morning at the local safety blitz/fun fair at the fire hall (which was quite fun, to be perfectly honest) but I had from 1-5pm to find something to keep us occupied.

I had the brilliant idea to go to the dollar store, get a little bug-catching kit and then head out to a little river I know of nearby to go bug hunting. Garrett was stoked, we were slathered in sunscreen and fun was about to be had!

Until we got there and realized that the river had gone down a bit from the last time I'd seen it. Not only that, the exposed river bed was some of the suckiest, gloopiest mud I've ever had the mispleasure of stepping in. I almost lost my shoe and was sucked in up to mid-shin!

We tromped around the little field and found some stagnant, swampy water, chased a few frogs and generally got covered in disgusting muck and slime. We then washed off in a giant mud puddle beside the car. Garrett has never been that filthy before. On the upside, I didn't need an excuse to give him a bath!

I need to find a better bug collecting stream. I know where all the good creeks and ditches for bug collecting are... in Camlachie. Acton, not so much.

It's Not Gas This Time

Kara is finally starting to smile now and not just because a gas bubble is forcing its way past her mouth.

Ain't she a cutie?

Beware The Giant Sausage!

So last week I went out to find Microplay in Guelph to get the work Xbox repaired. When I finally found it, I also stumbled across an absolutely awesome Hungarian deli right next to it.

Why is it awesome? Well, you can get a piece of the best kolbassa I've had in years for $10. How much kolbassa can you get for $10?

This much!

I've been so used to getting crappy kolbassa at Sobey's for way too much money. I'd get a piece the size of Garrett's hand for $4-5 most of the time and it would be nowhere near as delicious as the stuff I got at this deli.

And I won't go on about how cheap the cheese is. I got a chunk of Havarti that would have easily cost me close to $4-5 at Sobey's for $2.

The only downside is that it's on the far side of Guelph. Oh well. It'll be a treat.

They're Happy! They're Really Happy!

A Winner Is Me!

I should go buy a lotto ticket.

I've won two draws in the past week. Woo!

First off, I won a random draw on Evil Avatar for one of the mod's birthdays. He was giving away some stuff and I was one of the winners. I'm not sure what I'm getting though. It could be a videogame, it could be a bag of cat toys. I'll have to wait until it arrives!

Then today I'm checking my e-mail and lo and behold, I've won a briefcase in a draw on the Halton Hills website. I filled out a survey last week and bam! I won!

Of course, I might have been one of three people who filled out that survey, but hey, a win is a win.

Now to get that 649 or Super 7 ticket...
