This is a cool article about the actual content changes and how they affect the characters of the Star Wars universe on the new DVDs when compared to the 1997 and original movies. It also takes a look at why and how Lucas does what he does.
It's a good read. I am one of those guys who doesn't mind some of the CGI additions to backgrounds and such. They're fine. I just really can't stand the stuff that actually changed the story or characters. Even having Fett & Jabba in A New Hope bugged me because that meant that rather than having Jabba revealed as the giant space slug that he is after manipulating things for two movies, he's smack dab in the middle of the first movie. Sigh.
