Acton: Unleashed

I meant to post this yesterday but didn't have time before work and then, well, Fable...

The Powers That Be had been ripping up the main drag through Acton for almost the entire summer. This had led to much consternation amongst the local vendors as their shops were rather difficult to get to for much of the summer months.

The good news is that they finally got everything done this past week and to celebrate they shut down the main drag AGAIN on Saturday, only this time they were having a party and a big sidewalk sale amongst other things (see below).

The bad news is that if you remember what the weather was like yesterday, it was Fall with a capital F. Very cold, rainy and bleak. In other words, MY kind of weather, but not the weather for a street festival. Julie & I went over to check things out around 1pm and sadly it was just us and a couple of sad clowns (literally) and some miserable looking vendors.

Of course, at the stroke of 2 the sun came out, the rain stopped and the temperature climbed back into nice territory. Of course, the whole shebang downtown finished at precisely 2pm and they had to reopen the streets. Ah well.

The 'other thing' that I mentioned was the Acton Restaurant Passport. For $10 we got a little passport that allowed us to go to 4 (of 7) different restaurants and get a free food item. We were going to get two of them, but decided to stick to one passport, which turned out to be a good idea because we got a tonne of food just on the four tickets we used.

The good thing about the low turnout is that people seemed to be going out of their way to make us enjoy their food and this led to extra fries with our halibut fingers, TWO big slices of pizza instead of one and a great big shrimp cocktail and rather large ice cream sunday.

MMmm..

Anyway, that's my missive for today. I really need to get to bed because I've already had two days where I've been lacking sleep and day number 3 will make me super grumpy. Roar.
