Given the confrontation between Eko and the security system, I'm making my prediction today that the Dharma Initiative was involved in nanotech research and that the security system is some kind of cloud of nanites.
Though how a cloud of nanites could pull a person like they did with Locke is a mystery to me. They'd be more likely to just devour a body and leave nothing behind except more nanites.
