A month or two before Garrett's 5th birthday, I started to think about what we could do to help him realize that there is more to life than just playing with toys. Namely, we wanted him to start taking some more responsibility for his actions and for doing his share around here.
We've been slow in implementing anything concrete, though we've had a pretty successful week in policing his DS usage. So it was quite serendipitous that we happened across an educational toy store on the way home from church and there it was.
The Responsibility Chart
Suffice it to say, Day One has been quite impressive. Garrett had his toys put away, his teeth brushed and his bed made in less time than it took for Kara to destroy 4 books... which isn't much time these days. We're coming up with a reward scheme for him and hope that this will help Garrett step up to the plate, responsibility-wise.
I'll let you know how things are going in a week when the novelty wears off.
