Don't Poke My Tummy!

We went to a wedding yesterday that really set the bar for all weddings to come... in many different ways.

It was for the daughter of friends of ours from church. We went to the ceremony in the afternoon and it was a nice and short service. The only thing was, the pastor forgot to tell people to please be seated after the bride walked down the aisle so everyone just stood for the whole 20 minute ceremony :) Ah, we're such sheep.

We had a nice little visit with the parents of our pastor in the interim between the service and the reception. It's always nice to hear about how bad your pastor was as a teenager.

The we had the reception. It was a nice intimate affair... only 450 people were there... plus the wedding party of, oh, 28 people! Honestly, they had 15 bridesmaids and 13 groomsmen. Yarg.

As for the food, well, that was the best part. Started with buns and appetizers, then soup, then a fantastic salmon with spicy rice and Greek salad, followed by stuffed chicken breasts and rack of lamb and finished with a delicious cannoli dessert.

And, of course, there were the two nicest words in the English language: Open Bar. And what an open bar... If you could imagine it, they had it. Well, no Cristal Champagne, but otherwise...

We left before the seafood buffet and chocolate fountain started, but that was probably for the best. I was already stuffed to the breaking point and it wouldn't have been pretty if I'd been let loose on that.

Speaking of not pretty, the photographer and videographer were a textbook case of how NOT to film/shoot a wedding. Honestly, I've never seen someone more intrusive than the videographer. During the ceremony, he was standing there in front of the bride and groom while they exchanged rings with his camera right in the middle of them. All we could see was his skinny butt. And the guy wasn't even dressed nicely. He was wearing jeans and a blue t-shirt. His partner on the still camera wasn't dressed much better. She was in white slacks and a bright blue tank top.

We were joking by the end of the night that the videographer was probably dancing with the bride during her first dance just so he could get a better shot. Yeesh.
